Moving is stressful enough when you’re the only one involved. But if you’ve got some furry friends tagging along, it can be even more of a hassle. Fear not! We know how to make your move as seamless and stress-free as possible. Whether it’s a cat, dog, or hamster, here are some tips for a smooth transition for both you and your furry friends.
Prepare Ahead of Time
The weeks leading up to your move can be hectic but don’t forget about your pets during this time. Make sure that all their vaccinations are up to date and that you have all their paperwork sorted out. If you’re crossing state lines, call ahead to make sure that you have all the necessary documentation so there won’t be any delays once it comes time to move. If you are new to our area and need a vet recommendation, let us know!
Get Them Familiar With Their Carriers
If you need to transport your pets in carriers, start getting them used to them well in advance. You don’t want them trying to make a break for it when they realize they’re going on an adventure! Put treats and toys inside the carrier so they associate positive things with it. Practice putting them inside before moving day, so it doesn’t become a stressful experience for either of you.
Create A Safe Zone For Your Furry Friend
Whether you’re driving or flying, designate one room in your home that’s just for your pet(s). This will help reduce stress levels since they’ll have something familiar around them while everything else is changing around them. Put in their bedding, food, water bowls, toys, etc., so they can easily adjust once moving day arrives. You should also keep the door closed until after you’ve moved into the new place, just in case they try making an escape during transport!
Move day can be tough on everyone, especially on animals unfamiliar with changes like this. By following these tips and being prepared early on, your move should go as smoothly as possible — regardless of how many legs (or paws) are joining the ride! Once you arrive at your new place, remember to give them lots of love and attention — after all, they deserve it after such a big move! Good luck out there!
